The Massachusetts 58-hour law was passed in 1892. The law applied to women and minors employed in manufacturing or mechanical work (Laws of 1892, chap. 357).

H.R. 95 became law on Mar. 6, 1911. Under that law, workers younger than age 14 could not be employed except in farm labor or domestic work. Those younger than 16 could not work for more than eight hours a day or forty-eight hours a week without their written consent from their parents. (Laws of 1911, chap. 209).
